Here is a lovely trio of iconic branded 1950s lipsticks with Gwenda compact – great for display on a retro dressing table or in a vanity case.
The three lipsticks no longer have the lippy inside but their metal cases are too lovely to throw away! In particular the Yardley one (colour is Gay Crimson) has a fabulous star patterned case.
The other two are from Estee Lauder (Apricot) and Max Factor (Sunset Rose) and they are also in lovely metal cases.
With the trio is a highly collectable Gwenda compact which has a mirror in the lid and space for your cocktail cigarettes!
The compact is earlier than the lipsticks – probably 1920s or 30s?
The ceramic top features a lovely vintage flower vase with forget-me-nots – bet this was a lovely present from a boyfriend!?
Gwenda compacts were made by Birmingham-based company Hussey-Dawson who began manufacture in the 1930s. Initially not as high end as makes such as Stratton, but they are now highly sought after.
One lipstick measures 7cms and the other two are 6cms. The compact is 9cms by 7.5 cms.
All are in good vintage condition. The lipsticks no longer have lipstick inside them but you can see the remnants of the colours. The compact is in good condition – the mirror is good and the spring still works well on the cigarette holder. There are a few scratches but nothing to significantly affect the look.
This 1950s lipsticks with Gwenda compact combo will be a great addition to someone’s collection.
