This Vintage gardening books trio provides a wealth of gardening advice and knowledge.
There is even one which provides poetic inspiration to gardeners everywhere!
The ABC of Gardening by W.E. Shewell-Cooper was published by Hodder and Stoughton in 1949 and provides an alphabetical journey through gardening under various headings including soil, vegetables and soft fruits.
There is even a section on how to control those pesky pests!
It has some lovely coloured and b/w plates. There is also a very charming image of a robin sitting on a garden spade on the front of the book.
Then we have:
Labour-Saving Gardening by Fred Streeter was published by Odhams Press in 1956 and helps you get a better garden with less toil (my kinda book!).
There are lots of nice b/w photos and nice line drawings at the start of each chapter.
It also has a very useful gardening month by month calendar at the end of the book.
And finally we have (my favourite!):
Green Fingers – A present for a good gardener written by Reginald Arkell and was published by Herbert Jenkins Ltd in 1934.
This great little book is full of lovely, quirky poems dedicated to gardeners – with some fantastic illustrations by English illustrator Eugene Hastain throughout.
Each of these vintage gardening books trio measures 20cm by 13cm.
They are all in good vintage condition with only Labour-Saving Gardens having some foxing on the early pages. Green Fingers has a lovely binding with original cellophane cover which still has the original price of 3’6d on it!
A really nice little trio which would be a lovely vintage gift to any green fingered friend!
